His lecture, titled “Lupus: Fact or Fiction? Things Patients Should Know but Are Afraid to Ask” will take place March 20, 2012, at the Mobile Museum of Art in Mobile. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m., and the presentation begins at noon.
Dr. Baliog, a rheumatologist, will discuss systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), a long-term autoimmune disorder. During the talk, he will discuss common clinical presentations of SLE, what causes it, common misconceptions, and current treatment. He will also give an introduction of the planned dedicated Lupus Clinic in the Mastin Building at the USA Medical Center campus.
Dr. Baliog earned his medical degree from the University of the Philippines. He completed his residency training in internal medicine at Boston University School of Medicine – Roger Williams Hospital in Providence, R.I., and completed his rheumatology fellowship at Boston University School of Medicine – Roger Williams Hospital and Brown University Warren Alpert Medical School – Rhode Island Hospital, both in Providence, R.I.
