USA Neurosurgery Department Relocates Offices




The University of South Alabama Department of Neurosurgery recently relocated its outpatient offices to Springhill Medical Center.

Drs. Anthony Martino, Eugene Quindlen, George Rusyniak and William Scott relocated to the new location.

The new facility, which has improved clinic space and parking, is located at 3715 Dauphin Street, Medical Office Building 2, Suite 4A. For more information or to make an appointment, call 665-8290.

Join USA Biomedical Library in Celebrating National Medical Libraries Month

The University of South Alabama Biomedical Library is hosting special events throughout the month of October for National Medical Libraries month.

USA Welcomes Dr. Rachel Seaman

Dr. Rachel Seaman was recently appointed assistant professor of internal medicine at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. Dr. Seaman splits her time between the USA Medical Center Emergency Department and hospitalist duties for inpatient internal medicine patients.

Dr. Seaman earned her medical degree from USA College of Medicine. She completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at USA Medical Center.

She is a member of American College of Physicians, the Medical Society of Medical County and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

Retirement Reception Honors Cynthia Messer

The University of South Alabama Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology hosted a retirement reception honoring USA Nurse Midwife Cynthia Messer on Sept. 30, 2014.

Messer is retiring after more than 24 years of service, of which the last 11 years has been with the obstetrics and gynecology department as a nurse midwife.

October Med School Café - Breast Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment

The October Med School Café lecture will feature Dr. Lynn Dyess, professor of surgery at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, and Dr. Joel Lightner, assistant professor of radiology at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine.

The lecture titled, “Breast Cancer Awareness,” will focus on the screening, detection and current controversies of breast cancer.  Dr. Lightner will discuss the innovative tools used to diagnosis breast cancer, and Dr. Dyess will discuss the latest treatment options. The lecture will take place on Oct. 23, 2014, at the USA Faculty Club on USA’s main campus. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m., and the presentation will begin at noon.

Dr. Lynn Dyess is a surgeon with the USA Physicians Group and the USA Mitchell Cancer Institute.  She earned her medical degree from USA College of Medicine. She conducted her residency in general surgery and a fellowship in burns and critical care at USA.

Dr. Joel Lightner is a radiologist with the USA Physicians Group who specializes in mammography at USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital. He earned his medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon, Ga. He completed an internship in internal medicine at Tulane School of Medicine in New Orleans and a residency in diagnostic radiology at the University of Vermont in Burlington, Vt. In addition, he conducted a fellowship in breast imaging at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. Breast cancer is the second most common kind of cancer in women. About 1 in 8 women born in the United States will get breast cancer at some point.
