The next Distinguished Scientist Seminar at the University of South Alabama College of Medicinewill be presented by Dr. Brian Popko, professor of the committee on genetics, genomics & systems biology in the molecular biosciences department at the University of Chicago.
His lecture, titled "Myelin Repair," will take place March 8, 2012, at 4 p.m. in the Medical Sciences Building auditorium on USA's main campus.
Dr. Popko’s research interest focuses on a molecular genetic approach to obtain a better understanding of the normal function, as well as dysfunction, of the nervous system, primarily through the use of mouse models of peripheral neuropathies.
Dr. Popko earned a B.S. degree in microbiology at Pennsylvania State University and a Ph.D. in microbiology at the University Of Miami School Of Medicine.
