Travis Harris, a second-year student at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, received the 2009 Michael Moore Award, which honors the medical student who performed at the top of the Gross Anatomy Course.

Harris not only excelled in the course, he also tutored fellow students and served as a teaching assistant in the gross anatomy course for physician assistant students.

The award was initiated by the Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience in 1997 to honor the memory of Michael Moore, a USA College of Medicine student who was killed during his freshman year of medical school. A plaque with listing of awardees is outside the Gross Anatomy Lab.
