The next Distinguished Scientist Seminar at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine will feature Dr. Paul A. Janmey, professor of physiology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
The lecture, titled "Mechanical Signaling in Cells and Tissues," will take place Jan. 15, 2014, at 4 p.m. in the first floor auditorium of the Medical Sciences Building on USA's main campus.
Dr. Janmey’s lab studies several aspects of cell mechanics.
Dr. Janmey earned his A.B. degree in chemistry and philosophy from Oberlin College in 1976 and his Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of Wisconsin in 1982. He was a research fellow in the department of chemistry at the University of Wisconsin and in the hematology-oncology unit at Massachusetts General Hospital.

The lecture series is comprised of distinguished scientists from other academic institutions who are invited by the USA College of Medicine basic science departments to present a seminar showcasing their latest research findings. Faculty, staff and students are strongly encouraged to attend.
