Medical students present at Summer Research Day

Students discuss their summer research in the form of poster presentations at the 50th Annual Medical Student Summer Research Day.
Forty-five medical students participated in the 50th Annual Medical Student Summer Research Program. The eight-week program culminated with student presentations at the 2023 Medical Student Summer Research Day, held Friday, July 21, in the Medical Sciences Building.

University of Florida College of Medicine, delivers the
keynote lecture.
Russell Terry, M.D., assistant professor of urology at the University of Florida College of Medicine, delivered the keynote lecture, “From Classroom to Clinical Practice: Maintaining a Research Throughline Along the Medical Training Journey.” For the first time, students had the opportunity to attend a mixer with the keynote speaker the Thursday evening prior to Research Day.

The summer program pairs medical students with faculty mentors, and students devote 30 to 40 hours a week to hands-on research related to basic science and/or clinical medicine. Through the program, students develop an appreciation of how research contributes to the knowledge and practice of medicine.

Winners of the Clyde G. Huggins Award for Summer Research in the oral and poster presentation categories will be announced next week.
