Healthy U-S-A Fair to be Held August 24th

Looking for an opportunity to receive free feedback on your health concerns? How about receiving a free lunch and back massage?

The University of South Alabama Health System is hosting a Healthy U-S-A Fair on August 24th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the USA Faculty Club. All USA employees are invited.

The first 200 attendees will receive a lunch, and everyone will have the chance to receive a back massage and register for prize drawings.

The health fair will provide health screenings - measuring blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, and bone density - and USA Physician Group providers will be on hand to answer questions regarding your health. You'll also be able to determine your body mass index and receive cancer screenings and physical therapy screenings.

Dr. Molokhia Featured in Press-Register

Dr. Ehab Molokhia, associate professor of family medicine at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, was featured in Thursday's Press-Register.

Dr. Molokhia gave important tips on how you can help your children have a healthy school year.

Save the Date: Autism Grand Rounds

The University of South Alabama's Autism Interest Group is hosting Interprofessional Autism Grand Rounds on Sept. 14, 2012, from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the College of Education, Room 3212, at University Commons.

As part of this year's conference, Dr. Richard L. Hayes, professor and dean of the USA College of Education, will present "Building an Inclusive Playground for the University of South Alabama."

Med School Café - Expert Advice for the Community


This week, Dr. Daniel Dees, assistant professor of neurology at the USA College of Medicine, presented the August Med School Café lecture.

The lecture, “Parkinson’s Disease, Tremors, and Other Common Movement Disorders in the Adult Population,” had a total of 95 attendees.

During the talk, Dr. Dees discussed Parkinson’s Disease, a disorder of the brain that leads to shaking and difficulty with walking, movement, and coordination.

The next Med School Café lecture will feature Dr. Albert Pearsall, professor of orthopaedics at USA. The event will take place Sept. 19, 2012.

August Med School Café: 'Parkinson's Disease, Tremors and Other Common Movement Disorders in the Adult Population'

The August Med School Café lecture will feature Dr. Daniel Dees, assistant professor of neurology at the USA College of Medicine.

His lecture, titled “Parkinson’s Disease, Tremors, and Other Common Movement Disorders in the Adult Population,” will take place Aug. 15, 2012, at the Via! Health, Fitness & Enrichment Center in Mobile. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m., and the presentation begins at noon.

Dr. Dees, who specializes in movement disorders, will lecture on Parkinson’s Disease, a disorder of the brain that leads to shaking and difficulty with walking, movement, and coordination. He will provide information on the causes and symptoms of the disease, as well as available treatment options.

Dr. Dees earned his medical degree from the USA College of Medicine in 2007. He conducted his internship in internal medicine at USA and conducted his residency in neurology at USA.

From 2010-2011, Dr. Dees served as chief resident of neurology at USA. Following residency, he completed a one-year fellowship in movement disorders at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Ga.

The Via! Health, Fitness & Enrichment Center is located at 1717 Dauphin St. in Mobile.
