Trauma surgeon wins prestigious award for Project Inspire abstract

Ashley Williams Hogue, M.D., trauma surgeon and director of Project Inspire at USA Health University Hospital, recently won a prestigious award for the presentation of the “Project Inspire Pilot Study: A Hospital-Led, Comprehensive Intervention Reduces Gun Violence Among Juveniles Delinquent of Gun Crimes.” 

Williams Hogue won the 2023 Cox-Templeton Injury Prevention Paper Competition hosted by the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST). 

“It is truly an honor to receive such prestigious recognition,” said Williams Hogue, assistant professor of surgery at the Whiddon College of Medicine. “Project Inspire is a program created and tailored to have a positive impact on our most at-risk youth, and it was exciting to share our story with others working to mitigate gun violence around the country.”

The Cox-Templeton Paper Competition is a competition of abstracts focused on an aspect of injury prevention that are presented during the EAST Annual Scientific Assembly, and only one winner is selected each year. The competition is supported by a grant from Jack and Pina Templeton, M.D.

The winner receives $1,000, and Williams Hogue said she is donating the winnings to the Project Inspire & Trauma Outreach Program. Learn more about Project Inspire.
