Dr. Chris Winters to Speak at USA Medical Center

Dr. Chris Winters, the H. Eustis Reilly Professor of Urology and chair of the department of urology at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, will give a presentation at the University of South Alabama Medical Center on Oct. 13, 2014, at 4 p.m.

The talk, titled “A Medical Odyssey: The evolution of mid-urethral slings for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence,” will be held in the USAMC second floor conference room.

A native of New Orleans, Dr. Winters earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans. He completed his urology residency in the combined LSU/ Ochsner program, where he served as chief resident and assistant clinical director at Charity Hospital. He then completed a fellowship in female urology and voiding dysfunction at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio in 1995.

At LSU, Dr. Winters also currently serves as urology director of the Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship, which is involved in the multidisciplinary training of urologists and gynecologists in the field of female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Winters' work includes extensive publications regarding techniques and outcomes of the sacral colpopexy procedures, and he was one of the first to report on recurrent prolapse following this procedure.  In addition, he has published extensively on graft biomechanics and histology and is recognized as a leader in graft technology on vaginal surgery.
