The next Distinguished Scientist Seminar at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine will be presented by Dr. Alan G. Marshall, professor of chemistry and the ICR program director in the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory at Florida State University.
His seminar, titled "Accurate Mass Measurement: Taking Full Analytical Advantage of Nature’s Isotopic Complexity,” will take place Feb. 17, 2011, at 4 p.m. in the Medical Sciences Building auditorium on USA’s main campus.
Dr. Marshall’s research involves the continuing development of new theory, techniques, and analytical/biological/environmental applications of Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FT-ICR) mass spectrometry.
Dr. Marshall received a B.A. degree in chemistry from Northwestern University and his Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Stanford University.
He has received numerous awards and honors including the Pittcon 2010 Plenary Lecturer and the 2009 Outstanding Achievements in Mass Spectometry. He also received the Eni Award: New Frontiers in Hydrocarbons and the Eastern Analytical Symposium Award for Outstanding Achievements in Mass Spectometry.
Dr. Marshall is a fellow of the American Chemical Society and has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications and several patents during his career.
