Williams joins community Walk with a Doc events on USA campus

Walking is a great way to get exercise and may even add years to your life, new research shows. And getting in your steps with others can likely only add to the positive benefits of healthy movement.

To support her patients, Katie L. Williams, D.O., director of the Pediatric Healthy Life Center at USA Health Pediatrics and an assistant professor of pediatrics at the Whiddon College of Medicine, is joining the Walk with a Doc program held on the campus of the University of South Alabama

“I am so excited to be collaborating with Dr. Richard Reiske in the Department of Surgery, Dr. Ann Payne-Johnson in the Department of Family Medicine, and the amazing team at the College of Health, Kinesiology, and Sports (HKS) as we strive to increase awareness and empower our neighbors (and each other) to take joy in movement and exercise,” Williams said.

The Walk with a Doc program is a free walking and education event planned for one Saturday a month at 8:30 a.m. on USA’s campus at the Student Rec Center. Once the weather warms up, the walks will move to Jag Fit trail across campus.

These events are free and open to the public.

“I will be encouraging my patients from the Pediatric Healthy Life Center to join,” Williams said, “and encourage anyone else interested in getting more movement into their routines to join us, too.”
