College of Medicine Doctoral Program Graduate Receives Distinguished Alumni Award



The University of South Alabama National Alumni Association honored three distinguished alumni and two community service leaders at its annual Distinguished Alumni and Service Awards ceremony on Thursday, March 8, at the Mitchell Center. More than 500 people attended the annual event, which recognizes the achievements and contributions of alumni and advocates for USA.

This year’s recipients were, from left: David Whiddon, class of 1969, chief engineer and vice president of engineering at Ingalls Shipbuilding; Dr. Terrence Tumpey, Ph.D. 1997, senior microbiologist and team leader of pathogenesis at the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention; Alabama House of Representatives Speaker Pro Tempore Victor Gaston, M.A. 1970; USA Professor Emeritus Dr. Glenn Sebastian; and, Mobile County Probate Judge Don Davis, 1978.

Dr. Tumpey received his Ph.D. is Basic Medical Sciences at the USA College of Medicine.
